Google launched SearchWiki in November this year – SearchWiki opens the door to a whole new searching experience. To use SearchWiki all you need is to be logged into your Google Account. Once you are logged in, you can begin to redefine your search process. For instance using SearchWiki you can interact with your search results, if there is a website you frequently use, although it doesnt appear at the top of the search engine results, you can move it to the top. SearchWiki allows you to mark up the Google search results, tailoring your results to suit you. SearchWiki also allows you to customise your search by deleting the results that are not required, adding new results, and write comments or reviews about certain results. For instance adding notes relating to what you found useful about a particular search result site.

SearchWiki transforms your online search process, making your search more useful and dynamic. You can interact with your search, set preferences and discard the unwanted to suit your needs. Your modifications are unique to your specific searches within your Google account. They only affect your searches, not other peoples they are unique to you. With the competitiveness of the search engine industry it wont be long before the other search engines follow suit and adapt their services to include this dynamic approach. The question is what does this mean for search engine optimisation? At the moment the answer to this question is not a lot, SearchWiki is in its infant stage, the number of people using SearchWiki is relatively low as to not cause any concern.

Although, in the future when SearchWiki is more widely used and adapted by other search engines, it may affect SEO. For instance searches individual preferences and opinions may influence the search engine rankings. If one particular search result is frequently removed from various searchers, Google may take note of this and reduce the sites PageRank and credibility. Consequently some search engine optimisation techniques of today, may be invalid in the future if SearchWiki takes off.
