How to improve your SEO as an online retail business…

Many businesses face problems when attempting to incorporate search engine optimisation into their websites and online retailers are one such sector. They face their own set of problems as descriptions of their products can be repetitive and the frequent turning over of new products also provides a massive challenge. Anyone who specialises in online retailing should take a look at my hints and tips on how to maximise your web traffic with some organic SEO tricks.

1) Get rid of repetitive copies

Many products are similar so when you are describing a product that is basically the same as 10 other products but in different colours or made by a different company you end up with a lot of repetitive content. Other websites that are selling the same products are also likely to be using the same or similar phrases to describe the product and if you want to avoid getting in trouble with the search engines then you should ensure that the product descriptions you write are as unique as possible.

Talk about the most obvious points of a product and try to use words that are not as obvious as what everyone would use. This works to your advantage in two ways as not only do your readers get a better website to look through but your rankings should also improve.

2) Ensure your content is updated and fresh

Content is often lacking on a retail website as many retailers focus so heavily on selling products to their website visitors that they forget to include content that is actually worth reading! Engaging with your customers is an essential part of doing business so simply trying to sell, sell, sell will not pull people into your website.

If you include a few pages that have a history on the background of your company (i.e. where it is based, how long it has been running etc) as well as articles about the products that you sell with links to informative wiki pages etc. You could also add a customer comment section and create a blog section that allows you to provide your website visitors with hints, tips, sales, product offerings and news within the industry.

3) Optimise your images

Many people do not realise that images can be optimised as well as text and PDF files. Online retail websites are usually home to countless images and better SERPs can be enjoyed if you simply optimised your images as well. Optimise your captions and alt text as well and images that are found by the search engines can be linked to and shared around the web, which also contribute to better rankings.

Here at the UK SEO Agency, SEO is our specialty. We provide a wide variety of internet marketing services and we tailor individual quotes in order to meet your specific needs. Dealing With Changes In Rankings

Search engine ranking is one important aspect of any search engine optimisation campaign. The use of the World Wide Web has become increasingly important in generating revenue not only to individuals but as to businesses as well. Search engines are one of the tools being used to achieve online business goals and higher revenue. Thus, search engine rankings are essential.

Search engine rankings change constantly, they can change for one out of several reasons. Your site may lose or gain rankings because of algorithm changes or maybe a site is added or removed in the search engine’s index  and or maybe due to an added or dropped link.  Some changes in rankings may be traced because of a particular event or while others may occur for what it seem like no particular reason at all.  But changes in rankings happen because change is constant and it happens regularly in search engines.

By understanding and learning the typical loss of rankings of your website can give us a better idea why there is such a movement or changes in the search engine rankings.  And will also help you in preventing serious drop in your rankings.  Although we cannot prevent search engine rankings from dropping, understanding the reasons why changes occur can at least help your search engine rankings stable.  The changes that  we are talking about may be narrowed down into three basic events first is your website changes, second is your competitor’s site changes and the lastly is the search engine algorithm changes. These are just the three major changes but  several other instances and events may occur also. Dealing with them is the best way to have a stable position in search engine rankings.

Most businesses makes changes or updates their websites frequently to be in current.  There are a lot of things you can do to update your website whether it is removing or adding a product, changing prices,  removing out-dated information, posting a blog, adding information and even having an overhaul update or redesign of your website.  These changes may seem minor to your website, but remember they can affect significantly your search engine rankings.  Don’t make drastic changes in your website unless you really need to, and if so you may need to consult your SEO provider.  When making changes on your website always consider your rankings and our search engine optimisation efforts.  Don’t make changes with things that you aren’t knowledgeable of, consult and  your SEO provider first.

Another factor that can change your search engine ranking is the changes made with your inbound links  or backlinks.  Technically, changes  on your inbound links are affected by changes made by website linking to yours.  Unfortunately, unlike with changes made within your website you don’t have any control with it.  But this does not mean that you cannot do anything to prevent such event.  Drastic changes in your rankings are rare if you are using natural links. Unless you are using paid or bartered links then there would be a significant change in your rankings for these large number of paid links are appears and disappears. To deal with this,  I don’t recommend you buying links. Work on your links naturally. Create more relevant content, people will find it useful and would like to link with you or share it.

Your server downtime can also affect your search engine rankings. Server downtime means that your website is inaccessible making it difficult for search engines to crawl. This would not have any long term effect on your rankings unless such event happen more often. How to deal with this? Simple. Find a reliable web host provider that delivers very minimal server downtime.

But can we ever deal with changes made in search engine algorithms? Change is constant with search engines.  However, to deal with such changes with search engine algorithm all you need to do is to be updated on what is happening in the search engine industry.

So, you have spent hundreds of precious man hours dedicated to taking your website to the top of the rankings and now you are starting to slip and you don’t know what to do. This is a common problem for many who attempt to create a search engine optimisation strategy without the help of a specialist company. It is also often the outcome for people using a cowboy company that promised you the high rankings, got you there and has now ridden into the sunset. Whatever the reason here are a few pointers:

The simplest way to get back into the top half of the search engine page results is to use the UK SEO agency as we can not only get you to the top but we also maintain our services to you for as long as you require. Our staff understand how vital it is to makes sure the hard work that was put in in the first place does not go to waste further down the line by continuing to optimise your website for you.

Rankings can drop for a number of reasons and it is common for SEO pages to drop after the change of algorithms that the search engines use to rank your pages. Sometimes the way in which a search engine will rank websites can change and it will take time to adjust to the new algorithms. It could also mean that now is a good time to check the website over to see that it is still search engine friendly and successfully optimised. There is no harm in double checking that the site structure is optimised to its full potential and check the status of the navigation and the usability and make sure you that your website content is not spammed in any way.

If you feel that some of the content may have been mistaken for spam or you used a link farm to gain inbound links then remove any uncertain elements for your website to see if that brings in improved rankings. As in any type of business it is important to check out the competition and see what you are up against as this may explain why your rankings have slipped underneath a larger and more successful companies search engine status. Have a look at the websites that have crept up past yours and see what they are doing that you are not. Check out the latest in market trends that are relevant to your website and make sure you are fully up to date in your offerings. It is also vital to check on your inbound links as the sources may have dropped in status and thus the quality of your inbound links are not regarded as high as they were previously.
