Channels For Blogs In Social Media

November 6, 2009

A blog can work as a centerpiece from which you can work outwards from to channel out into many other forms of SEO. You can include keywords and tags as well as HTML tags that all form search engine optimisation strategies and social media is a great way to channel SEO. The main objective of incorporating SEO with social media is to increase your web presence, raise your brand awareness and create relationships with established and new customers.

Well optimised content on websites appeals to the major search engine who are constantly ranking websites depending on the links and content that a website possesses. The same rule applies to social media content so it is important to apply the same techniques to your social media pages. Common techniques can be applied to things like widgets, audio, images and videos and if all of these aspects are well optimised your website will gain more traffic through your social media pages.

Google is the most popular search engine but second to Google is the social media website known as YouTube. In the top 20 list of the most used search engines other social media websites also appear including Facebook and MySpace. By being able to search within social networking websites you can always optimise within social networking websites. Always remember the simple rule that if it can be searched then it can be optimised. It is vital to recognise that searching doesn’t simply take place through search engines but also through social media pages. So a website such as Twitter i not only a social networking website but it is also a platform to use for instant messaging and as a search engine.

By creating channels of blog distribution through social media pages you can create more awareness and through awareness comes traffic and inbound links. It is easy to optimise social media pages with keywords and well placed tags etc and the more quality inbound links you can attract the more superior your website will look to the search engines that are ranking you. Another benefit of social media is the ability to communicate and interact with potential customers. You can raise awareness to your product or service by making friends and chatting about what you offer in a general way rather than in an advertising manner. Distributing your service through these channels is hugely beneficial.

You can create one blog and distribute out through the online community by simply posting it everywhere. i.e. Facebook, Flickr, MySpace, digg, Twitter and YouTube etc. If you can distribute your blogs throughout all of these sites you will get the ultimate exposure and exposure means more customers which means more business. Everything in the world of SEO is somewhat linked in together with many aspects overlapping ad following in from the previous technique. With keywords progressing from just content through to tags and codes and blogs not just acting as content on your website but as social media content.

Optimisation For Websites With Videos

Search engine optimisation for websites that boast videos takes particular concentration and if you are trying to improve your page ranking results then you must optimise your digital assets. Images, news and videos are now used throughout the search engines as a way to rank websites and it can no longer be avoided. By using SEO strategies specifically aimed at videos and images, SEO professionals can now increase your web presence by applying SEO techniques for videos. If you want to improve the SEO of your videos then here are a few hints and tips on how to achieve this.

1) Use keywords

In exactly the same way that you optimise text-based web pages for SEO, video content can be optimised through the use of keywords. Keyword rich websites are the most basic and yet one of the most effective ways to generate traffic and high search results. Relevant keywords work well for the search engine spiders as well as for the website visitors experience.

Keywords for video optimisation can be used for all of the following:

File names

Tags

Link text

URL

Title

After including keywords in all of the above you should include some text with the video that includes keywords. This way you have even more opportunity to throw in keywords, which can get picked up by the search engines.  The text here can be about the video to make it more relevant and it can be used to describe what the video is about so users know what to expect from the clip.

2) Linking to the video

Internal and external links are a vital way to promote web traffic and high search results. Linking to videos is done in the same away as other digital content and there are different ways to implement video SEO strategies.

Firstly, link to videos from other web pages and websites that are relevant to the video. Then cross link to other videos as well as providing links from blogs. These blogs can be both internally found and externally, meaning the blog can be linked to your video both on other websites and your own. Twitter is proving extremely useful for linking so try ‘tweeting’ the video. Bookmark the video and last but not least link to your video from social networking pages as well as just Twitter.

3) Use video sharing websites to distribute your video

Video sharing websites allow you to gain web presence as you website will become more visible. You can place your video on video sharing websites to gain extra links as well as improving your presence. YouTube is one of the most popular sites to use and you can use keywords in your video descriptions on the sharing websites.

4) Encourage video sharing in your website visitors

If you are trying to make visitors to your website share your videos then it is crucial to make sure that you videos are worth sharing. Make them entertaining, relevant, informative and interesting in order to gain popularity and this will make site visitors want to share your video.

Here at the UK SEO Agency we understand all of the different components that go into making SEO a success.

Part 2 – On Site Search Engine Optimisation

October 7, 2009

In the last post I talked about off site SEO and now I am going to talk a little about on site SEO. As with off site techniques, on site SEO literally means what its name implies; a technique that works from your own website that increases your rankings through well applied search engine optimisation. There are numerous techniques and I will just cover a few of these and as with a lot of SEO; the online community all differ with their opinions on what works and what doesn’t.

Content is key

Using content on a website that is rich in keywords is the most basic yet arguably the most effective technique to apply. When identifying your keywords you must ask yourself a handful of questions:

1) What are searcher’s going to type into a search engine to find my product/service/article/blog etc?

2) How do I really want the searcher’s to find my website through a search engine?

3) If I was searching for my offerings then what would I type into a search engine?

4) What keywords are similar websites using successfully? i.e. what websites that I am competing with rank highly in the results pages.

This will help you to determine which words are your ‘keywords’. How yo then apply these keywords is the trickiest part to get right.

Where to place keywords

1) Page titles and post titles should always include keywords.

2) They should also be included in bold for the tags at least once.

3) The URL of a website should also include the keywords.

4) Outbound links should be keyword rich.

5) Image alt tags should include keywords.

6) Heading tags should be keyword rich although there is much speculation about where and how. H1, H2, H3 and H4 tags will all have an impact and keywords should be included in these.

7) Scattered throughout the text of your post/blog/article/ etc and especially in the opening sentence.

Keywords should also be used in meta tags.

Niche topics

Themed websites that hold unique content are often highly ranked as there is little competition. If your website theme is fairly general then write blogs and articles that are aimed at a unique theme under a separate heading in your website.

Website design

A well designed website is a key factor in how easy it is to navigate and how appealing it is to both search engines and human beings. If it is well coded and well structured with little Flash, Java Script or Frames and you are careful to keep it updated with no links then your website will be a success.

Domain names

Choosing a good domain name is also an important part of on site SEO and there are a few things to bear in mind when choosing a name. Include a keyword or two if possible and research to see if the domain name has been used before and avoid it if it has.

There are many more on site techniques and these are just a few of the most obvious. For more information on Internet marketing contact us here at the UK SEO Agency for more information on how we can benefit your business.
