Black Hat SEO are unethical SEO techniques, Here at The UK SEO Agency we only practice ethical White Hat SEO techniques. Black hat SEO practices are likely to result in a website becoming banned on the search engines, as black hat dilutes the search engine results pages. Examples of unethical Black Hat SEO include such strategies as keyword stuffing, cloaking, hidden text, gateway pages, link farms and URL redirection. Keyword density is one of the factors considered by the search engines to determine the relevance of your website to a specific keyword. The more you use your keywords in your page increases your keyword density. However, the fact is search engines does not only look into high amount of keyword density but to reasonable and relevance. Stuffing too much of your keywords on your page will let the search engines think that you are spamming.

Cloaking is another technique used in SEO – This is a technique used to mislead the search engine in regards to the website content. Cloaking is when the content presented to the search engine robots is different to that presented to the user’s browsers. However, there are some methods of cloaking that aren’t deceptive at all such as delivering relevant content to users based on demographics or allowing search engines to index pages that are password protected.

Another black hat SEO technique that we strongly advise you avoid in order to ensure your website from getting banned on search engines is by having hidden text on your pages. This is a method of deceiving the search engines in regards to the website’s content by embedding hidden text. Hidden texts are made to have the same color as the background making it invisible to the user. These are achieving by having negative margins or placing it in an invisible containing element.

Redirecting of URLs is one of the most common black hat SEO techniques that most of us experience. URL redirection often occurs when a user or search engine is unknowingly being redirected to another website. This often happens when a user is being redirected to a malicious website or to acquire the pagerank of the destination website. Another strategy that you need to avoid is having gateway pages. Gateway pages are often the additional pages or websites created for the purpose of to generate traffic to another website leading to higher traffic,

Participating on link farms can also result in your website being banned. Link farms are a community of websites that link to each other. And black hat search engine optimisers often take advantage of this. Because link popularity is one of determinants for page ranking thus participating on link farms can increase your link popularity.

Here at The UK SEO Agency we strongly disagree and refuse to take part in any Black hat SEO techniques. Ethical Search Engine Optimisation techniques produce the best possible results for our clients sites, we build the credibility and strength of a website naturally, empowering its online presence. Ethical SEO works with the search engines to produce the best quality results for searchers, keyword density, link building and content writing are three fundamental SEO techniques. SEO focuses on the idea that when searching, people tend to type a few keywords into the search engines that relate to the product/service being searched. Ethical SEO optimises a site to include the correct keyword density throughout the content of a website. It is important to achieve the right balance between relevant keyword density and spamming. For instance relevant keyword density is an ethical SEO technique, it is concerned with ensuring a site contains relevant information that is both useful and informative to the reader. Contrastingly spamming refers to an unethical black hat SEO technique where by, a keyword is used excessively throughout the content of a website, which reduces the relevance of the site. Black Hat SEO

Todays article is an answer to the many questions we get asked about black hat, to list the top 3 techniques we see in use around the web

  • Keyword Spamming: This is simply the case of the overuse of a keyword, or group of keywords in a specific area of the website. This can be in the meta tags, the body of the text, the title of the page or any where else. A (Small) typical example would be if you found SEO, Search Engine Optimisation, SEO etc etc on a SEO companies website. A ethical company will adjust the densities across a large area of words, up to apoint of around 1100 words to acheive the required densities without spamming the page.
  • Cloaking: Cloaking is another area of severe concern from an ethical SEO’s perspective. This is like showing the search engine the prime beef steak, which the search engine love and give the website rankings, there can be any form of content, however usually there is keyword spamming on these pages. However when the user arrives at your website, there is a own brand cheap burger awaiting. This is a nuisance to the search engines and upon detection, expect a ban. An ethical seo can build the text into a website, without detriment to the design and function, giving the prime beef steak to the user, enabling sales to be made.
  • Hidden Text: Another bain of the search engine – and can be performed in many ways. I will list the most common ways we have found:
    • Background Coloured Text: Simple to implement, white text on a white background, cream text on a white background – all undetectable to the human eye and so you will find many sites out there with this problem
    • CSS: There are mainy ways to move text off a page with css, place it in a div layer, position it to 1000 pixels above the top of the page or to the left of the page, or simply use display:none; to hide it all together, very easy to detect, simply disable css
    • Javascript: Javascript can be used in a number of ways to hide content, however the key to it being a black hat technique, is in the intent to ensure a user will never see the content. There are many ethical ways of using javascrip for this purpose.

Now I hope this article has given you a brief understanding of the minefield of SEO, but one thing we can assure you – we will never implement a black hat technique on a clients website – your long term rankings are our reward.
