Last July Microsoft announced that Bing will be soon powering search engine results behind Yahoo. Currently, Google is the major player in the search engine industry composing almost 70% of the search engine market. It is a little early since Bing was launched in terms on implementing SEO on your website. With Microsoft’s Bing and Yahoo partnership this may give them almost the rest of the 30% search engine market.
The announcement of Bing - Yahoo partnership gave a huge impact on narrowing the road of search engines. Before, there was only Google but today we already have two major players in search engine field which Google and Bing/ Yahoo. There are other search engine players, although these are not that significant compared to Google and soon to be Bing/ Yahoo. Will this make any difference? Definitely, yes. Bing has gained a fairly positive response from critics. If Bing increases their market shares within the search engine environment, then more and more of your clicks may be arriving on your site through Bing. A new tag has been introduced by the three primary search engines Microsoft, Google and Yahoo - If you have spoken to any tired SEO recently you know why. The canonical tag is what a lot of SEO’s have been asking for, and in essence is a massive problem solver for the duplicate content issues within a single site. Wordpress is a great example of the duplicate content issue. Wordpress has many different URL structures such as categories, archives, tags etc, that duplicate content throughout the site. This is bad because by having different URL’s with same content you run the risk of dividing up the link equity between the different URL, As if that was enough. The canonical tag, takes care of this problem. This new tag is placeed in the tag of any HTML document, whose content has been duplicated elsewhere within the same site. It tells the search engine which is the preferred page to be displayed for this content. As well as… And here the good bit, it passes all the link equity of duplicate page to your preferred page. This is a big thing SEO for year have used all sorts of tricks to get round this problem in the past and now it solve with on tag canonical allows us to have a look at it in action in a typical word press situation :
A post is duplicate across two URL’s, where one is the primary URL we want to display in the search engine index and to receive all the link equity.
1) http//www.mysite.com/beginner-guide.html
2) http//www.mysite.com/category/beginner-guide
By inserting the below line of code into the tag of the html document “/category/beginner-guide” we are now telling the search engine to pass all that pages link equity to the “beginner-guide.html” document.

Unfortunately this is by no mean always the case, as the search suggest that they will honor it highly but not completely. However only time will tell how effective the tag will become, we will follow this blog up with further information in the near future.

Link Farming is where a group of web pages link to every other page within the group. Its been designed so that your website will rank higher within the SERPS, however if you let your website get caught up in link farming your going to cause a disaster for your website, it won’t help your website rank higher within the search engines it could actually penalise it.
From my perspective Link building is a much better method to use than link farming, Search engines such as Google do not like link farms, they could even penalise your website for doing so, it manipulates the search engines to make the search engine listings false. Link building is ensuring quality and so when you look for something in particular you will be presented with this not spam associated rubbish that doesn’t have anything to do with what you are looking for.
