Search engine optimisation is a very complex internet marketing activity however, once when you already have the basic knowledge,  patience and dedication surely you will have attain the online success that you have longed. To know that your SEO campaign and strategies are effective there should a be basis for your online success and one way to prove your success is by measuring certain factors in your SEO campaign.  SEO measurement may be classified in two categories through its productivity and significant results.

Productivity measurement refers to the factors such as number of links acquired, time spent on the activity, cost of activity, number of websites where you have submitted your links and the quality of links. The number of websites that you have contacted or such as article and site directories , the time spent doing the activity and the cost of activity refers to the actions that you take for your SEO campaign such as your link building.  The number of links acquired and the quality of these links are the positive correlation of the SEO activities that you have done. On measuring the quality of links there are several factors that you need to consider such the type of the link, onpage location of link, anchor text and more. The idea to this is that by measuring the effort that you have undertaken in trying to acquire links you can be certain with the value of your SEO activities by measuring the number and quality of links acquired. This can be helpful to understand how effective you have used your resources while link-building.  But of course the true value of links gained through your SEO campaign will be demonstrated after analysing the results of your link building campaign.

Meaningful results may be measured through rankings and traffic. Rankings are a great deal to most clients for they measure their online success with their rankings on search engines.  Higher rankings would mean that their campaign is effective. In fact, online success is not only being determined by search engine rankings. There are still other factors that can determine your online success such as your ROI and conversion rate.

Rankings are an effective way to measure the accountability of targeted SEO campaign for they are not affected by seasonal changes to the same extent that an organic traffic to a website can be.  Measuring search engine rankings can be very useful however search engine results constantly changes. Furthermore, keyword rankings will often fluctuate. Thus, when you are focusing much on keyword rankings for your reports it can be harmful for client’s will usually determine their online success with their keyword rankings.

Traffic is the most important measurement for SEO, its quality , quantity and in terms of conversions.  Most important  is to understand overall traffic volume of your site and how many keywords the traffic came. The impact od long- tail traffic can be sometimes overlooked, but it can convert better that head- tail traffic. Thus, it is also important to ensure that long- tail traffic is included in your report.

Finally, the most important measure is the conversion. Conversions are being determined by the organisation’s business objectives. Conversion is the best measurement because it takes into account the quality of traffic.

Implementing both type of sitemaps delivers a lot of benefits and we cannot say that HTML sitemaps are no longer significant in search engine optimisation. For a crawler or robot HTML sitemap is just only another HTML file and it is crawled the same way. HTML sitemaps are still relevant and helpful in your Search Engine Optimisation campaign. It delivers convenience and efficiency to your visitors and it also contributes in increasing your website’s visibility on Search Engines. Either way, HTML Sitemaps and XML Sitemaps has their own benefits to webmaster, website users and search engines.
