Javascript Pop Up Boxes

July 29, 2011

Filed under: SEO — Tags: — Becki @ 3:06 pm

There are three kinds of Javascript popup boxes (also referred to as dialogue boxes, Javascript dialogue, popup dialogue), an alert box, a confirm box or a prompt box. Each pop up box is used for different reasons to promt users to do different things.

The different kinds of Javscript and their uses are:

  • Alert box – used to ensure information is recieved by the user, they usually have to click ‘OK’ or ‘continue’ to continue on to the page they’re looking for. Often used as warnings of some kind, e.g. ‘This site required Flash’.
  • Confirm box – used to make the user either confirm or cancel something. If the user clicks to confirm, usually either ‘OK’, ‘Yes’ or ‘Confirm’ they will then be taken to the page they were clicked to proceed to, but if they click ‘Cancel or ‘No’ they will usually be taken back to the page they were previously on. An example of when these are used is for age verification, e.g. ‘Confirm you are at least 18 years of age’.
  • Promt box – users must input information before they can continue. If the user enters the valid data they will be taken to the page they clicked to proceed to, if they choose to cancel they will usually be taken to the page they were previously on. Could be used if the user is required to enter a code or their name to proceed.

Here at UK SEO Agency, we are able to enable any of the three Javacript popup boxes where necessary on your site. If you’d like to enquire about putting a Javascript popup box on your site, fill out an enquiry form on our website www.ukeseoagency.co.uk and we will get in touch as soon as possible.

How to SEO Flash Websites

July 23, 2011

Filed under: SEO — Becki @ 1:10 pm

If you are considering developing a Flash website, stop and think about it first. Although these sort of websites may look good and plenty of users will enjoy them, not all users will and its these users you need to consider when creating your website. Users such as those with dial up connections would find flash websites difficult to use as it could take a few minutes to load each flash page, immediately putting them off.

If you still want to create your website with flash then there are ways you can keep all customers happy and ensure your site can be viewed by everyone, regardless of their internet type. The best way to have a flash website is to also create a duplicate HTML version of your site, giving users the option to choose which format they wish to view your site in. This would also keep search engines happy as they’d be able to view your site and rank it based on the HTML.

Another way you could create a sucessful flash website isĀ  to create the website in HTML format, then use flash as a replacement for images, banners and to add mini-movies. This would allow search engines to rank your site as they could review the basic HTML format and base your ranking on that. An even better option is to create your site in HTML first, let that get recognised and ranking in search engines, then start adding flash as time goes on and your rankings get higher. Although this may take longer, the chances are your website could get a higher ranking a lot easier than by starting with a flash site.

If you do include flash mini-movies in your site, especially for introductions to your home page, its advisable to include skip buttons for each as regular customers will get bored of having to sit through the same introduction each time they view your site, and other users just won’t want to watch them at all!

If you would like to include flash on a website, why not get in touch with us here at UK SEO Agency by filling out our enquiry form and we can contact you and discuss the best way to develop your site. Our enquiry form can be found on our website www.ukseoagency.co.uk.

Improving Page Loading Speed

July 21, 2011

Having a fast page loading speed is essential for any website that wants to be as successful as possible. It’s also something that search engines are considering when ranking your site, so ensuring that your website has the best loading speeds possible is vital.

Another reason you should ensure your page loading speed is as fast as possible is to keep users happy. If a user has searched for your website and landed on your home page it is highly likely they’re truly interested in your website, however if they land on your home page and its taking a long time to load they’re probably going to lose interest and look elsewhere. Therefore a fast loading speed would ensure they stay on your site long enough to actually view your site properly.

There are many ways you can improve page speed, and although they might sound quite simple and irrelevant, they really do have a significant impact (most of the time!). A few examples of how you can improve page loading speed are:

  • Avoid using flash content unless absolutely necessary.
  • Minimise image sizes as smaller images will take less time to load.
  • Remove any unecessary HTML code.
  • Minimise the use of Javascript.

There are many tools available which can evaluate page loading speed and suggest ways you can improve the speed. An example of this is YSlow which is a free Firefox add on which can give you hints to improve the load speed of your page and improve your sites ranking on search engines.

Here at UK SEO Agency, we try our best to ensure your websites loading speed is as fast as possible therefore helping your page rankings and keeping your users satisfied.
