What to focus on in 2010

Improving your online marketing should be top of your list of New Year resolutions and the first thing to do is recognise and identify where you can make the improvements. Once you know what parts need to be improved you can get started on setting goals and putting a plan into place. Search engine optimisation is massively important to a successful website and social networking has recently become such a dominant force that you should not ignore it. Email and mobiles can still be used and should not be forgotten about in the new era of technologies and here are a few ideas on what to focus on in 2010.

Social media is not easy to use as far as your return on investment (ROI) figures but it is possible to use it to your advantage. Take part in social media to ensure that you don’t get left behind and as well as this you will also be included in any news, updates and happenings that may affect your business. You should track your progress and keep referring back to your goals, which may include increasing the awareness of your brand with symbols and signatures, developing relationships with your customers, increase website traffic with recommendations and build up your customer base.

SEO should also be focused on and you should ensure that you focus on more than simply being noticed by the search engines. Getting ranked highly by the search engines is simply half of the goal, as you still need to ensure people are visiting and using your product/service even if you make to the first Google page. Make sure that your website matches up to your meta descriptions and title tags to ensure that you don’t annoy or disappoint your customers when they reach your site and it isn’t what they expected.

Email marketing should not be forgotten about simply because there are many new forms of communicating. It is not about to disappear in 2010 and increasing your email marketing efforts will still pay off; despite the introduction of social media. Use social media to increase your email listings by all means and take email to the next level by encouraging subscribers to forward your emails with via email or with social networking. The two can be used as a partnership rather than as enemies.

Many websites now enjoy mobile phone compatibility and if yours does not then you should use this year to change that. Optimise for all hand held devices and focus on B2C companies. Check that your pay per click (PPC) goals are actually being met and if they are look to improve them. Many people forget about checking in with their PPC as they are using so many other advertising schemes and marketing ideas to have the time to check on the PPC efforts and results so use 2010 to stay on top of what is going on within your business.

SEO On Mobile Internet

There are an increasing number of mobile phone users today, mobile phone manufacturers are dedicating their time into innovating a newer technology of mobile phones. Mobile phones are almost categorised as a “need” especially in the business world today.  According to certain studies the number of mobile phone users are greater compared with computer users,  making it an interesting tool for marketing. There are companies that have already embraced the mobile marketing through SMS. But because of innovation in the mobile technology,  connecting to the Internet is now possible. Mobile phones is a communication gadget that does not only let you connect and communicate with people you know but as well as to the WWW.

More and more people are already using their mobile phones to access the Internet. Thus,  opening the opportunity for  Internet Marketing and SEO. There are already some businesses that practices SEO  mobile Internet on their website.  There is no doubt that mobile phone are a great marketing tool. However,  like any other practices it also do have its own limitations.

Despite the fact that there are a lot of people and still increasing numbers that are using their mobile phones to access the Internet, there are problems related to mobile web adoption. Certain issues that are cited with mobile Internet are:

  • the clarity of the sites on mobile phones are less compared to computers
  • screen size becomes a problem while surfing
  • extensive web content may not be easily viewed on mobile phones

Search engine optimisation is one of the essential aspect for your online business growth and success. Search engine optimisation is not only applicable and limited for websites that can be viewed in PC’s but as well as well as for websites on the mobile Internet.  Most business websites only consider search engine optimisation factors for PC.  But with the number of people turning into their mobile phones to access websites, it is  time to consider a newer SEO strategy for your website for mobile users.

Connecting to others,  information query satisfaction and content sharing are the foundation of online commitment. Mobile access helps in strengthening these commitments.  Having Internet access on their hands, people are always on the go. And these people pertains to both consumers and producers of digital information.  According to researchers, people that access the web using their phones search differently than those using the traditional means. With this, websites should consider having a different search engine optimisation strategy for mobile Internet.

Mobile Internet

Communication technology has evolved over the years, we are using mobile phones for more than just a simple phone call. Mobiles are being used to communicate on various levels,  verbal, text based, imagery and electronically over the Internet. People tend to access the Internet over their mobile phones in attempt to locate a product/service when they are away from their computers. For instance mobile Internet is commonly used to identify cinema listings, local restaurants and more. Social networking sites such as Facebook also accommodate for mobile Internet users, within the members settings profiles.

Accessing the Internet on the go is becoming increasing popular, although, mobile Internet is not as efficient or as easy to use as the PC Internet access. For instance mobile Internet is time consuming, entering Website URL’s take a longer period of time due to phone’s keyboard. Consequently mobile Internet has a slower bandwidth, users have to wait longer for webpages to load. There is also the issue of a mobile phone containing a smaller view screen, users are restricted by the information displayed, compared to the PC Internet access. Consequently the search engine results when using mobile Internet are slightly different to PC Internet. For instance after typing the word “Dog” into a mobile phone Google browser, it displayed images and text based results. Consequently under the same keyword using a static Internet connection, the results are more detailed, including video results also. In essence mobile Internet is less advanced, compared to static Internet,  there is certainly room for improvements within the field of mobile Internet.

Mobile Internet will without doubt continue to grow and expand, with its increased use and purpose. Although mobile technology must also advance in order to facilitate an increasing need for Internet on the go. Website owners should consider how their sites are viewed on a mobile phone display screen. Perhaps include a mobile phone interaction option on their site, whereby once clicked it will display the Webpage more clearly in a mobile browser.

If you would like to discuss mobile Internet options for your Website in more depth, please feel free to give the team at call at The UK SEO Agency. We are always happy to help, Internet Marketing is our passion.
