Google Plus One

July 16, 2011

Filed under: Google — Becki @ 2:42 pm

Google has recently invented a new +1 button to be used for users of the internet to ‘like’ a webpage. Sites can choose to have the +1 button on the sites where users can then click and ‘like’ their website. Because this button is relatively new, not many people really understand what the button does or what relevance it would have to their site, which is why i’m writing this blog in order to inform you about the +1 button as much as possible.

There are many benefits of including the +1 button on your website, a few of which are:

  • Users can publicly ‘like’ your site, with the number of likes your site has appearing on Google search results, Google ads, your website and next to articles about your site.
  • Google then recommends your site to friends of those who have +1′d your site and to those they think will be interested.
  • Google have said that your +1 results will have an effect on your sites ranking within search results, meaning the more likes you have the higher your site could rank.
  • Your website could recieve more traffic as Google will have recommended your site to users they believe it will be of an interest to.
  • The +1 button is available in various different styles and sizes so you can choose the one you’d prefer to appear on your site.

Many websites have started installing the +1 button on their websites as they are realising that this button could be very useful for their business and there are multiple ways the button can (and probably will) be updated as it grows and becomes more popular.

If you would like a plus one button to appear on your website, contact us here at UK SEO Agency by filling in our enquiry form and we’ll be happy to help you take your business further.

Since 2009, search engines have been paying more attention to websites page loading speed so it has now become your responsibilty to evaluate your site and ensure you’re doing your best to improve your site speed.

There are a many tools available to help evaluate and improve your site speed. A few examples of these are:

  • Google’s mini site dedicated to making the web faster. This site includes articles on web page speed for you to read and get information from, various discussion for you to read and participate in and examples of tools you can use to help check and improve your site speed.
  • Page Speed for firefox is an add on that evaluates your sites speed performance and provides suggestions that can help better your site speed.
  • YSlow is a free tool from Yahoo! which analyzes your web page then suggests possible ways to improve performance based on their set of rules for high speed performance.
  • Speed Tracer for Google Chrome is a tool which shows where time is being spent on your site and helps you to monitor and fix these issues.
  • Show Slow is a tool that helps monitor website performance over time.

There are many other tools available to help check your sites page speed, these are just a few of the more commonly used ones.

Another way you can improve your site speed is to minimise the file sizes of your images. By minimizing the file sizes, you are allowing the search engines to process more pages quicker and therefore loading more pages within a certain time. There are also ways to minimise the CSS and Java script on your site which can have a  noticable impact on page speeds.

Here at UK SEO Agency we frequently use these tools to help every site we work on get the most from search engines and ensure the loading times of all pages are as fast as possible!

If you would like us to help improve your sites page speed, why not fill out our enquiry form and allow us to help your site perform to its best potential.

A few misconceptions about the ease of selling a blog…

February 7, 2010

Selling blogs for money in order to make a career out of it is not as easy as everyone seems to think it is. New bloggers come and go like yo-yo’s and very few actually make it from determined new blogger to successful blogger with a readership never mind make a career out of it. The internet boasts many rags to overnight riches stories, which are partly to blame for the misconceptions about how easy it is to apply good and meaningful SEO and blogs. Trust me as someone who has been specialising in SEO skills as well as designing websites and creating thousands of blog posts; these stories are few and far between and the majority of people fall flat within the first few months.

As well as the misconception that you can easily become a millionaire online overnight, another popular myth is that unique content, GooglePageRank and numerous backlinks will increase the money that your site is worth from pennies to pounds. It is true that these are desired parts of a good website but these inclusions alone will not affect the price or worth of a website as revenue and traffic are far more vital to a potential buyer. If someone wants to buy your website that boasts good revenue and site traffic without backlinks then they will but if you have loads of backlinks but no revenue or traffic, how do you expect to make money?

A better way to show you what I mean is to provide you with an example. Take two blogs, namely blog 1 and blog 2. Blog 1 enjoys the addition of a handful of backlinks, gets 5,000 visitors a month and has a PR4 yet makes no revenue. Blog 2 has a PR2, receives the same or slightly fewer visitors but it uses Google AdSense and makes 300 GBP per month. While blogs 2′s page rank may be lower it earns money and anyone looking to but a website will buy one that makes money rather than one that ranks highly.

There are also many myths about how you should sell a website. There are a few internet resources at hand here with Flippa.com proving the most usable. The best ones will require that you pay a fee, but it will be worth it as you will be on the listings available to thousands if not millions of potential website buyers. Ignore all the people that say you can sell your website via a free advertising space as for a fee as little as about 25 GBP you can sell it quicker and for more.

Selling a website can be a great way to make money and there is no doubt about it that the internet can be a lucrative place to be. However, how easy it is to do is shrouded with absolute BS and making money online can only be done by those educated and patient enough to learn how to do it properly. Here at the UK SEO Agency we can help you to achieve your goals with a wide offering of services to help you to improve your online presence.

Making millions overnight is basically as likely as winning the lottery…
